Examiner: Janine Taggart and Jason Donnelly.
Aims
These Irish Dance examinations aim to guarantee that all dancers of varied abilities learn the basics of Irish step dancing. These examinations are fully choreographed and concentrate completely on solo work and on the correct techniques used in performing Irish Dancing such as precision, timing, execution, carriage, etc.
Each student will receive a report card with remarks and feedback. The emphasis here being on constructive criticism. Each dancer receives 100% individual attention as they perform each dance on their own. They will be given a certificate and medal for each completed grade. Each grade must be passed before a dancer may attempt the next grade.
Why do they grade exams?
- Each dancer receives individual feedback
- They help boost the dancers confidence, self esteem and mental skills such as absorbing information, following and memorising instructions and presenting them in a correct manner.
- The grades represent the standard of dancing a dancer has accomplished.
These exams have been taken by children in Dubai. America, Derby, UK with a 100% pass rate. Now they are being offering here in Hong Kong!
Recent examiners have been Ruth Long, Leslie Baird and Marlene Oliver.
